Funny things overheard

I was swinging by a local convenience store today, one I normally do not frequent when I overheard one side to a brilliant conversation. – I’ll set the stage for you.

Handsome and talented man (Ryan) enters store and proceeds the fountain drink section. The clerk is behind the counter, on her cell phone and ringing up customers.

So what did the doctor get for you?

Shit, fuck that shit. You gotta put some crème on that shit and just lay in bed wit’ yo’ legs spread and air that shit out.

No shit………..

Naw, bitch, lissen to me, I had that shit once, it was all white and sticky down there and shit, you gotta just lay there, put the crème’ down there and stay there and let it work, that shit will work better than any shit that doctor says.

- Thanks.

It's Christmas Time................again.........

Last night I came about as close as I ever do to a nervous breakdown. I’m stressing over my Villains deadline. Whether Hurricane Kids will or will not get picked up, the kids are always demanding and loud, they can be very loud, our puppy is sick and lethargic and shitting everywhere so I may need to drop some money to take her to the vet today, and my Coyotes are on a 4-game losing streak. I composed myself, re-evaluated my situation and came to a simple solution; I need 2 things to make my life run smoothly. A maid for the house so I always have clean underwear, and an 11x17” printer so I can blueline print my thumbnails and cut valuable time off of penciling a page. Ideally I would get an 11x17 scanner too, but the printer is a must. There are some affordable ones on eBay, and even though I sell dozens of cars a month on eBay to other buyers, I’m personally scared to death of spending $130 on it. But I need to do that I think, for my sanity and the flow of my house to return to normal.

We did finally take the kids to a movie, I don’t think they have been to one since Madagascar, so we piled them in the van and went and saw Goblet of Fire on Sunday. I’ve admitted before that I am a Harry Potter fan and I love the characters, books and films. I can see where people who have not read the books might be a little confused by the films and especially this 4th movie. It moves very fast and skips a lot but I think they did the best they could based on the length of the book. I would have liked to have seen more of the Quidditch World Cup and less of the Dragon scene, but Dragons and Giant Apes sell, so I can see why they did that. Book 5, Order of The Phoenix is my favorite book by far, so I am eagerly awaiting that film, although I think the ending to the 4th movie did not set it up well at all, and almost seemed like they were trying to tie up the series. I know that “Phoenix” is in production so I’m not sweating it, but the more mature and “warlike” tone of the later books is fantastic for an older reader like myself and gives a natural progression to the ages and attitudes of these characters.

Finally, go check out GROUNDED from Image Comics, it’s a great mini-series that I have fully enjoyed and I have a pin-up in issue #4 as well.

- All I want for Christmas is a healthy puppy and a creative boost to increase my workload.

the mirroring blog

I'll be posting my blog both here and at my MySpace site - for the peeps who prefer one or the other. Just because I'm that important. http://blog.myspace.com/hurricanekids

the gassy post

Current mood: gassy

It's no secret that I am getting old. We all are (unless you are young), but here I am turning 30 in a few weeks and I feel it. I don't dread it and whine like a little bitch about it, it's a fact I have accepted, but it still stings. I have a house, a job, 3 kids and a wife, but none of it is easy and I'm not nearly as comfortable as I thought I would be at this age. I don't need a lot of money, and I know I already make more than some my age, but I would like to be to the point where I don't have to worry about paying the mortgage every month. I told the wife the other day that we should sell our house, take our 100K in equity (roughly) we have and move to Europe. If I knew I could find work there I would probably do it in a heartbeat. Fuck this dustbowl of dirt and greed and violence I live in now. Maybe I'll just buy a place in Oregon somewhere. Hopefully someplace that has a high speed connection...........

the hicky dude post

From the Arizona Republic, who I don't think are even smart enough to think for themselves, the "teaser" for an online article about an incident yesterday in Iraq. - "Two women blew themselves up in a classroom filled with students. No U.S. forces are among the dead." Well thank god for that, 27 innocent people are dead but at least none of "US" died. - bitches.

On a completely different tone, I was shooting pics of a car today for my annoying side job when I see a guy roll up in his black PT Cruiser, it has a big-ass Church sticker on the back promoting his personal choice of house of worship, and a license plate holder that said, "World's Greatest Husband and Father". Then the guy gets out and his neck is covered in hickeys. Now my thoughts on the matter are, no wife who puts that license plate holder on that car, gives her man a huge, fucking purple hickey. So he's probably cheating on her, going against one of the commandments that he's obviously sworn to uphold. Maybe he just uses the Church sticker to pick up girls. But what do I know, except that I would kill my wife before I let her defile my 87' Acura Integra with the previously mentioned license plate holder.

the cat in heat post

I'm not a very good self-promoter but now that I am finally getting into some comics I would really like them to sell, at least well enough for me to afford the bristol I draw them on. I have no problem drawing comics on the side, I would just like to be able to break even on some costs. I'm currently running an eBay auction to that end and I always have pages for sale as well as low commision prices. In the spring I would like to make it up to the Emerald City Con in Seattle so I can hang out with Denver and debut VILLAINS and I will be in San Diego next summer for the Comic-Con international. I just hope Viper gets enough booth space so I can hang out there, not having a booth last year sucked. I think Charlie will be down for that con and he'll probably be signing with Adam, Russ and I as the first 3 issues will be out. His artwork for our back up series is great and I'm having a blast coloring those pages as well. Well, now that I've bored you to death, I'll leave with this tidbit..... my kitten is in heat and is trying to get my (female) puppy to lay into her. It is grossing me out.

Hey all -

Sorry for the lack of updates, It has been an insane month that seems to be the beginning to an insane year for the next 12 months or so. I'm currently working on Villains (April 2006 from Viper Comics), I got 10 pages coming up in The Legends of Middleman and a Pin-up in the Middleman Trade (both from Viper Comics, December for both I believe), we're still waiting word on The Hurricane Kids, so that may still happen next year, (I'm sure something will happen there, it's just a matter of when) and I've got a couple other ideas kicking around the old noggin so I'll definitely be staying busy.

On the family front everything is still cooking along. J got a job so she can high-tail it to Europe next year for a cousin's wedding, so I'm spending much more time alone with the boys at night now so I'm trying to get back into the groove on that. The older 3 just finished soccer and I coached Aiden's 5-6 year old team to a stellar 6-2 record including 4 straight shutouts. (But we don't keep score, yeah right.) Ash is finally getting to the age where him being small is sticking out like a sore thumb and he had a hard time competing with the older kids in his 7-9 age group. But his gymnastics is still going strong (he has a six-pack and can do hand stand push-ups). The baby would make me a fucking millionaire if I just sent off some photos to a talent agency (as would the other 2), so I have no idea why I'm not pimping the kids out for my own gain. The Texas comic convention went great as we met some swell fellas and had a blast. I'm looking forward to the next convention that's not San Diego Comic-Con.

We also got a dog.

All Hollow's Eve

I gotta admit, as a parent, I don't really look forward to Halloween as much as I should. It's a lot of complaining by the kids, driving around to a better neighborhood, and fighting with them to keep their costumes on. But they like it and that's what's important. In our family, we have a tradition of trying to make or manufacture costumes instead of buying mass-produced store bought crap. Some of my personal favorite from the past have included Ash as Superman, Aiden as Batman (2 years ago), Ash as an eagle (complete with feathered wings) and Aiden as Batman Beyond (last year) and this year, I made a robot costume for Ash, as Aiden went with a Cheetah motif and Kieran rocked a Mouse costume. Aiden and Kieran;s ears and tails were store bought, but Ash's costume I made from U.S. Postal Service Priority mail boxes (3), his bicycle helmet, lots of tape, tin foil and sharpies. In all it took about 3.5 hours but turned out well and he even won best costume at his school today. I'm a proud poppa. Without further ado.... The Cody Kids; Halloween 2005.

as you can see Aiden is in his usual cheerful mood.

another one?

Yes. I figured all of my other blogs (Villains Comic, The Hurricane Kids Comic and Sketchjam) each have a particular purpose and each reflect on other individuals as well as myself, so this is where I will be posting my personal ranting and ravings and stories from now on.
